Laity

Vision:
To empower and enable the laity to actively participate in the mission of the Church and contribute to the building of God’s Kingdom.

Mission:
The Laity Ministry works to strengthen lay apostolic activities by creating opportunities for collaboration and coordination among various diocesan forums, devotional groups, and community organizations.

Objectives:
The ministry aims to empower communities through the coordination of community organizations, encourage lay participation in Church ministries via devotional groups, and promote educational and economic progress through employment-based forums. The world is the primary platform for the laity’s mission — in politics, business, media, and other secular fields — where they are called to restructure worldly affairs in line with God’s will and spread Gospel values. The Laity Ministry Committee works towards evangelization, spiritual sanctification, inspiring Christian values in daily life, active presence in social work, model family life, youth development, social interventions, mission initiatives at national and international levels, organizational growth, interfaith cooperation, and essential missionary training.

At the Parish Level:
The Parish Laity Ministry Committee is the coordinating body that unites various lay activities and promotes the integrated growth of the parish and its local community. It ensures value-based, Gospel-inspired leadership among the laity and nurtures their involvement through organizations and movements. This committee includes four categories of members: B.C.C. unit representatives, community organization representatives, devotional association heads, and forum leaders. Parish-level laity representatives are elected from Basic Christian Communities (BCCs) or wards, along with presidents of approved devotional and community associations and forums under the Archdiocese. The committee must ensure at least 50% representation of women. From among its members, a convener and joint convener are elected, with the convener also serving on the Parish Council.
